The BJR Athletic Scholarship is being offered by the Brunswick Junior Railroaders Boosters organization. It is presented as an honor to student athletes who have shown good sportsmanship, leadership, and a passion for excellence through sports and academics. 

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female Brunswick High School student athlete that meet the requirements of the scholarship. BJR reserves the right to award no scholarship(s) in the event the candidates do not meet the qualifications or there are no applicants. 

Applicant Eligibility Criteria: 
1. The applicant must be a Brunswick High School student and be graduating from Brunswick High School the year the application is received.
2. The applicant must have participated in a BJR sponsored program.
3. The applicant must have competed in one complete season of high school athletics.
4. The applicant must have applied to and been accepted to an institution of higher learning upon graduation.

Application Requirements*:
1. Obtain an application from the Brunswick High School Guidance Department or online at www.bjrathletics.org.
2. All applications must be completed in its entirety and signed by both the student and parent or guardian. Incomplete applications will not be considered or reviewed.
3. Provide with the application a minimum of one letter of recommendation from a teacher, administrator, guidance counselor or coach.
4. Provide a copy of the students' official FCPS transcript dated after February 1.
5. It is the goal and objective of the BJR organization to foster good sportsmanship, honesty, and respect in the youth of the community through athletic competition and related activities; with that in mind, write a short essay explaining how your participation in athletics has developed these characteristics and how they will help you in your future.

* All the Application Requirements must be met to be eligible for consideration of the scholarship funds. 

Application Deadline: 
Return the completed application to the Brunswick High School Counseling Office by Monday, May 3rd. Late applications will not be accepted. 

Review Process: 
Applications will be reviewed by a committee appointed by the BJR organization. Committee members will review all applications separately if) a "blind" manner so they have no knowledge of the applicants identity beyond the accomplishments listed. 

Awarding of Scholarship Funds: 
Scholarship recipients will be announced at the BHS awards assembly. Scholarship recipients will receive a letter explaining what must be done to receive the funds. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the institute of higher education and shall be applied towards tuition cost. 
Failure to notify BJR of the address to send funds to, by the date given in the letter, will result in the loss of the award. The award notification letter will be sent to the scholarship recipient by July 1.
